1000 miles into our journey home we arrive here. The first of two final staging points to our journey for a 'snow free' Michigan. We have averaged a very nice 13.2 mpg with diesel running from $3.35 to $400. Scott AFB Fam Camp is available to active duty, reserve, guard, and retirees, this Fam Camp is located on base about 24 miles east of St. Louis just off I-64. It is the perfect stop off point for veterans both North/South and East/West journeys. We have stayed here twice while staging our departure home after snow dispersal.
Scott AFB is the HQ for 18th Air Force as well as the 375th Air Mobility Wing. As such there are first class services throughout the base.
The Fam Camp is located south of the gate on Golf Course Rd. There is a stocked fishing lake adjacent and plenty of woods that teem with Morel mushrooms. There are 24 sites with power and water with a central RV dump located on the Gunn Street loop.
While here we dined on Korean Lumpia Bowl and Texas Hot Gut Sandwich.
This campground is very quiet, well maintained, clean, reasonably priced and of course secure. It is centrally located in the area with easy on/off access to interstates 55, 64, 70, 255, and 270. On base facilities are easily located and full service. Price for this campground is $25/night. If you qualify, reservations can be made 30 days in advance at 618-256-2067. It is a great place for us to wait out the weather. We still have one more stop enroute if needed outside Chicago. This place is a keeper.
